A $5,000 grant from SBCO helps fund a Learning Garden in the Ray Unified School District.
This SBCO grant will be used to purchase garden supplies, tools, a chipper shredder, an irrigation system and other tools to help more than 60 students learn gardening skills they will enjoy using for the rest of their lives.
Gardening in the southwest is challenging, students will get their hands dirty building a garden right out of the bare desert, learn methods for improving and conserving soil and the principles of vermicomposting.
The Learning Garden will be a long term project for the Ray school district that will be both fruitful and vegetableful.
