Many SaddleBrooke residents know all about SaddleBrooke Community Outreach’s Clothe-A-Child Program and make an annual donation to help us clothe the needy children of our area.  For those of you who are new to SaddleBrooke or are not familiar with the program, here is some information.  Kids’ Closet is located in the Gardner Learning Center in San Manuel.  Needy children are referred by their schools and may visit the Closet two times during the school year to receive wardrobes of new school clothing.  Most students are bussed by the schools and others come with their parents.  The clothing is provided free of charge to the children – that’s where you come in!  Each child receives the following during his two visits:  1 jacket, 1 sweatshirt, 3 pairs of long pants, 3 pairs of short pants, 3 short sleeve tops, 2 long sleeve tops, 2 pairs of shoes, 12 pairs of underwear, 12 pairs of socks, 4 books and toilet articles.  Other items such as dresses, skirts, caps, and belts are given out as available.  A volunteer “shops” with each child on a one-on-one basis as the child selects the items he wants and tries them on in one of our many dressing rooms.  This experience is a special shopping trip for a child who may never have shopped for new clothing or shoes.  Of course, the volunteers have as much (or more) fun as the kids!

To better understand the enormity of this program, here are the statistics from the 2009-2010 school year:  21 schools, 3 counties, 3,488 wardrobes, 2,268 children and over 200 volunteers.  As you can imagine, it does take a lot of money to run a program such as this. Here is your opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life by making a tax-deductible contribution.  Donations in any amount are appreciated, but $65 will provide 1 wardrobe for 1 child, $130 will provide 2 wardrobes for 1 child and $260 will buy 2 wardrobes for 2 children.  If you would like to make a contribution as a special tribute or a memorial to someone, an acknowledgement will be sent to that person or family.
